Why We Recommend Ban Sabai Village

Strengths :

  • Residents and guests often praise staff for being caring, attentive and “exceptional” — many reviews highlight kindness, patience, and personalized support.
  • The facility provides a wide range of care levels — from light assistance to full 24-hour nursing, including specialist dementia/Alzheimer’s care. That makes it versatile if needs change over time.
  • Setting is peaceful and pleasant: tropical gardens, pool, quiet atmosphere — many find it feels “homelike” and calming.
  • Meals and wellness/spa services (massage, therapies, gentle exercise) are available, supporting both physical health and quality of life.
  • Multilingual and expat-friendly: staff and services tend to support international residents, which helps foreign seniors feel comfortable and understood.

Things to consider :

  • Location is somewhat remote: it’s not in the busy city center — means quiet and calm, but also fewer restaurants or shops within walking distance.
  • For people with limited mobility, upper-level rooms or villas with stairs might be less ideal — though there are ground-floor / accessible options.
  • Some reviews mention that standard rooms or older room types may feel dated or less comfortable compared to newer villas/suites.
  • Spa or extra services (massage, wellness) may add to the cost — not always included in the base package.

Ideal For Foreign Residents Who :

  • Want a peaceful, resort-style senior living experience in Chiang Mai with care available.
  • Value flexible care levels — from basic assistance to full-time nursing or dementia care as needed.
  • Appreciate warm, attentive staff, multilingual support, and a welcoming environment for expats.
  • Seek a holistic lifestyle: good food, wellness/spa, activities, nature, quiet — beyond just “nursing home.”
  • Prefer a long-stay arrangement that feels homelike rather than institutional.

Less Ideal For :

  • Those who need frequent city-center access, nightlife, or walkable urban amenities — due to the somewhat quiet, remote location.
  • People requiring constant, specialized medical or hospital-level care that might go beyond what a care-residence can offer (though emergency hospitals are reportedly nearby).
  • Guests on a tight budget — especially if opting for higher care levels, spa/wellness services, or upper-end room types, which may be more costly.

After years of navigating senior care in Canada, my family made the difficult but ultimately rewarding decision to move my aging parents to Chiang Mai in April 2025. It was a big transition—my mother is living with dementia, and my father manages diabetes—so choosing the right facility was critical. We found that place in Ban Sabai.

While the care facility they previously lived in did their best, there were ongoing small mishaps that gradually wore on our confidence. Since moving to Ban Sabai, the difference in attentiveness, structure, and overall care quality has been striking.

Ban Sabai has taken a holistic approach to senior care, with a strong focus on physical and emotional well-being. The staff are genuinely diligent and caring, and they go above and beyond to ensure my parents’ individual needs are met. The food is consistently healthy and thoughtfully prepared, contributing meaningfully to my parents’ overall health.

The medical care in Thailand, to our pleasant surprise, has been excellent—efficient, accessible, and thorough. My parents have had no issues receiving regular check-ups, treatments, and follow-ups. Their care is clearly managed with due diligence.

Ban Sabai is owned and operated by a Swiss-Thai couple, whose professionalism and compassion are evident in the way the facility is run. Their hands-on approach and well-organized structure have given us great peace of mind.

Most importantly, my parents are happy. They feel safe, seen, and respected—which, as any caregiver knows, is everything.

We’re incredibly grateful to Ban Sabai for making what could have been a very stressful move into a positive and reassuring chapter in my parents’ lives.

It looks like a lovely facility. High standard of care. Affordable vs US. Long way out of Chiang mai (40 min drive) which would make visiting difficult

This is a beautiful and atmospheric spa resort at a perfect location for a quiet and peaceful break away from the hustle and bustle of the city. I stayed for 3 nights for a yoga / spa retreat and this is the place to be if you are looking for a place out of town to slow things down a bit as it is in the middle of a quiet estate, almost 6km from town. The daily private yoga sessions I booked were great and were customised to individual level of experience. They were held in a lovely pavilion set amidst a garden pond. Aside from the yoga , spa sessions as well as a cooking class, I also took a walk around the village estate to visit the Elephant parade House which has a gallery of painted elephant statues and a elephant painting workshop. There is still the convenience of a shuttle one can catch in the late afternoon/ evening to the night bazaar areas if you must go to town. Otherwise, it was easy to catch a grab taxi to and fro city for less than 100 baht.

Excellent service from the lovely staff- from the front desk to the spa therapists I had for all days. They were all so sweet and accommodating to my needs. Bee and ‘L were especially hospitable and it was great to see them everyday! Would love to be back again someday!

We stayed with Ban Sabai in June 2016. We spent one night here and the rest of our time at a hotel downtown. The view from our room was beautiful! We sat by the pool, ate at the restaurant, and got massages in the morning. The pool was very relaxing (there were only two other people staying at the same time as us), the food was fresh and delicious, and the massages were amazing! Customer service was also great. It wasn’t the fanciest hotel we’ve ever stayed at, but was a great value for the reasonable cost. We wished we would have stayed two nights as this was probably the most relaxing part of our trip to Chiang Mai. The only thing I think could have been improved was more frequent pool cleanings. There were lots of bugs and debris in the pool. Part of this is due to the fact that there are such lush gardens around, so I say the trade off is worth it!

Q Does Bansabai Senior residence include hydrogen water in care packages?

Yes, it is part of our wellness philosophy. While not a medical treatment, it enhances our holistic approach to senior care in Chiang Mai.

Q When is the best time to move to Ban Sabai Village?

When deciding when to make the move to Thailand these are some things to consider:

- Come to Thailand when you are still fit and can explore. Thailand is a very beautiful country and there are so many places to visit.
- Thailand is a great base from which to explore the east, far-east and Australia.
- Chiang Mai and its surroundings offer many things to do and places to explore. There are many short trips that you can take with 1-3 overnight stays.
- When that is getting to be a bit much, then there are plenty of one day and half day trips available. We also arrange short outings to get some time out and about.
- When we talk to the long time residence here in Chiang Mai we find that some came early some of them late. On an average perhaps around the age of 75 is the best time to move.
